Don’t choose a branch or college solely because of your rank or what others tell you. Take the time to understand what the branch actually involves, what your day-to-day life as a resident will look like, and whether the hospital’s clinical exposure, work culture and learning opportunities align with your goals.
Knowing what residency is actually like on a day-to-day basis would have helped me make a more informed decision and set realistic expectations.
I was born to be a Surgeon. Totally chose it out of passion. What attracted me most was the variety- no two days are exactly the same, and General Surgery gives you exposure to a wide range of conditions, emergencies and procedures while building a strong foundation for further specialization. For me, Surgery is not just a specialty; it is a combination of knowledge, skill, resilience and responsibility, and that is what drew me towards it.
