“Typical close” is the median AIQ general-merit MD/MS closing rank across colleges — a rank around which about half the seats in that specialty went. The single most competitive seat is often thousands of ranks ahead of it, and is shown on each specialty's own page. “Seats” counts the fullest single counselling round, never the sum of rounds — later AIQ rounds restate the same seats rather than adding new ones. Reserved-category and state-quota cutoffs are more relaxed.
